TUESDAYS WITH MORRIE

Harold Gould, among Broadway, film, and television’s most distinguished actors will be joined by Dominic Fumusa, recently of Broadway’s Wait Until Dark, when they co-star in the Jeffrey Hatcher/Mitch Albom dramatization of Albom’s runaway bestseller, TUESDAYS WITH MORRIE.

Albom’s book, “Tuesdays With Morrie,” became a major hit when it was first published in 1997 and was on The New York Times Hardcover Best Seller list 205 weeks. Having since been published in 31 languages in 36 countries, the book remains at number #9 after 139 weeks on The New York Times Paperback Best Seller list.

TUESDAYS WITH MORRIE is the heart-warming and profoundly moving recounting of the relationship between award-winning sportswriter Mitch Albom and his former sociology professor Morrie Schwartz who has been stricken with ALS (Lou Gherig’s Disease). After years without contact, Albom recalled a forgotten promise to stay in touch and, as he once he did as a student, reclaimed his visits with Morrie every Tuesday until he died.

In the stage adaptation, the role of the gentle, aging college professor who once loved to dance with the same passion he had for teaching his students, is played by Harold Gould, who brings the brilliant craftsmanship which has defined his performances since he first hit New York winning an Obie Award for the Off-Broadway production of Difficulty of Concentration. From that point on, Gould’s career went non-stop making his first film “Two for the Seesaw” in 1962, with such memorable feature follow-ups as “The Sting,” Woody Allen’s “Love and Death” and Mel Brooks’ “Silent Movie.”

On television, where he reigned for three decades as one of its most active stars, Gould co-starred with Daniel J. Travanti in the American Playhouse production of “I Never Sang for My Father,” opposite Katharine Hepburn in “Mrs. Delafield Wants to Marry” and went on to such unforgettable roles as Rhoda’s father in “Rhoda” and as Rose’s mobster boyfriend in “The Golden Girls.” Gould has recently been seen on the big screen as Grandpa in Disney’s remake of “Freaky Friday” with Jamie Lee Curtis.

Dominic Fumusa, most recently of Broadway’s Wait Until Dark opposite Marisa Tomei, and of the Roundabout Theatre’s A Flea In Her Ear, will be seen in the role of author/journalist Mitch Albom. An alumnus of the Off-Broadway production of Joe Montello’s Take Me Out, Fumusa will be coming direct from New York’s 42nd Street Theater Row where he has been starring as Vince in Tape, a role written for him by Stephen Belber. The film version debuted at the Sundance Film Festival starring Ethan Hawke.

Author and journalist Mitch Albom is a nationally-syndicated columnist for the Detroit Free Press and a nationally-syndicated radio host of his own radio show. Named the top sports columnist in the nation 13 times by the Associated Sports Editors of America, the highest honor in his field, Albom is the founder of The Dream Fund, a charity which helps underprivileged youth study art, and also a volunteer program, A Time to Help. In addition to “Tuesdays With Morrie,” Albom has also authored the #1 international bestseller “The Five People You Meet in Heaven.”

    LALAH HATHAWAY
    Valentine's Day Celebration
Opening Acts: Eric Benet and Amanda Dumas

"In 1990, Lalah was responsible for an acclaimed debut album, eponymously titled and compliments of Virgin Records. Words like "smoky" and "confident" were used to describe it. Then, in 1994, came the album A Moment, also on Virgin. Again, glowing reviews. She was said to be the possessor of "torchy elegance" and to have made a "solid" and "independent step" in contemporary Rhythm and Blues.

Lalah joined Joe Sample—jazz veteran of The Crusaders fame—for 1999's The Song Lives On; he provided the formidable piano tracks and she? well, she did what she always does: mesmerized us with a more than notable, persistently sultry vocal performance.

Most recently, she has come to the table with a group of songs that reveals an even greater maturity and a darkly original approach to production.

Long before Lalah was my friend, I was her fan. The current that tore through me, the first time I heard her sing, has revisited every time I've since had the good fortune to hear her. I join a host of others in breathless anticipation of her next solo recording."

    Patsy Moore, 2003 [from www.lalahathaway.com]

On "Hurricane," Eric Benét's harrowing and healing new album on Reprise Records/Friday Records, courage comes from honesty, vulnerability and a stubborn optimism that infuses every note and each word of these thirteen original tracks with hard-earned wisdom and an artistry drawn directly from life.

Five years is how long it's taken the Milwaukee native to follow-up his breakthrough 1999 album "A Day In The Life" featuring the Grammy®-nominated smash "Spend My Life With You." What followed was a high-profile marriage and an even more high-profile break-up that tested and tempered him as both an individual and an artist. It was also the creative impetus for the remarkable musical odyssey that comprises "Hurricane."

About Amanda Dumas: "The singer/songwriter is poised to be the next in that line of acoustic soul divas such as Indie.Arie, only with a refreshing and youthful spin on issues of love and life for today's generation." -- The Urban Network/Scott Galloway

    GOLDA'S BALCONY
    STARRING VALERIE HARPER

Four-time Emmy Award-winning television and motion picture star VALERIE HARPER will fill the shoes of Israeli Prime Minister GOLDA MEIR as she takes on the starring solo role in the National Tour of the Broadway smash Golda's Balcony.

This engagement of Golda's Balcony will mark the Washington premiere of a riveting portrait of one of the great women of our time. Golda's Balcony is the latest work from Tony-Award-winning playwright William Gibson (The Miracle Worker, Two for the Seesaw), and a record-breaking stage hit that recently completed 15 sold-out months on Broadway.

The rise of Golda Meir from Russian schoolgirl to Israel's Prime Minister is one of the most thrilling stories of the 20th century. Golda's Balcony tells this story--and more-- and earned raves across the board on Broadway:

"A moving tribute to human capacity for survival." - USA Today

"Golda's Balcony is perfect: the play conveys so many lives, so much history, such an onrush of humanity." - John Simon in New York Magazine

"Gibson's fascinating play is a tight-knit story of war and peace." - Clive Barnes in The New York Post

"Hearing from someone who was there at the birth of the country, who sacrificed to make it happen, helps remind us where the Middle East standoff came from. Golda's Balcony is self-enlightening." - The New York Times

Nominated for a Tony Award and for "Best Play" by the Drama League, and winner of the Drama Desk and Lucille Lortel Awards, Golda's Balcony is a dazzling, sight-and-sound spectacular that promises to be a thrilling, moving and unforgettable night of theatre.
